Childbirth in old times :  history, childbirth practices, ancient times

Have you ever seen a woman giving birth to her baby before? You may not have seen, but surely, you have heard many stories about it.

The point of interest here is the connection a baby has with his mother in the womb. The umbilical cord!
The umbilical cord is the pipe that connects a baby in the womb,to his mother. It also supplies oxygen and nutrients to the baby from placenta . From birth, a baby coming out from birth comes out with the cord connecting the mother, and delivery is not complete until it is cut off.

In ancient Nigeria, when the placenta is made to be cut,and no sterilized object is found, women, use anything around them to cut it off. In fact, a woman was said to have broken a bottle around her and used it to cut off the umbilical cord by herself.

Cutting umbilical cord with none sterilized objects can cause a lot of birth defects and infections. But how many of the children born this way ever had birth defects afterwards? Is this also an injurious abuse??
