5 major reasons for barriers of girl child education in Africa -girl child educaton, girl child advocacy,

When we say that over 50 million girl children are still out of school in this 21 century, please believe us. You know, the barrier of girl child education to some people existed in the far back and shouldn't be in  this generation. Why then are our girls still out of school despite the much of enlightenment and advocacy, stressing the importance of girl child education? Here is brought to you,the 5 major reasons for barriers of girl child education in Africa.

  • The picture above is posted to bring home the first and most major barriers to girl child education in Africa. The case study here is actually Africa because, right from the creation of this wonderful entity, education had never been a priority to both male and female. Our African culture mandates importance on Agriculture with the use of their hands and local machinery. Then centuries later, with the advents of white people in the soil of Africa, education was born and accepted. But,only for the males. The girls? Ooh,our African fathers believe that child bearing and kitchen duties are their major focus and responsibilities. To them, the value of every girl child is to learn how to cook and keep home, and seconded by child bearing. Child bearing can never be a barrier for girl child education in Africa. What is really a barrier is the African culture itself, which lacks insight on the value of girl child, limiting it to kitchen and child bearing works only.

  • Poverty is another major reason for barrier of girl child education in Africa. Yes we can accept poverty as a barrier because, education is not free in a way.It actually takes capital to ensure assurance somewhere beneath. A family with ten children whose only occupation is farming may not be able to send all their children to school at the same time. What our African fathers would rather do is to pick the boys and send them to school, while the girl child stays at home, waiting for her suitor to come to her for marriage.
  •  Lack of social amenities. There are many towns and villages where there is no school. For any parent to send their children to school, they must really prepare their minds to send their children to far away towns and cities. Who can risk their girl child with this? Hardly! The boys are always lions, proving to be  strong enough to survive any hard situations. Thus, parents can send their boys to schools in a very far away distance, but not their girls. Thus, lack of social amenities is yet a   major reason for barriers of girl child education in Africa.

      • Moral decadence . A lot of female children have left homes as virgins, only to return with unwanted pregnancies. Yes,this is so because, school environment which usually leaves under aged children to their fate is an acceptable environment for all sorts of immoral conduct. To safeguard the chastity of their children, many parents and cultures say no to girl child education and this is especially found in African countries.

Some of the 5 major reasons for barriers of girl child education can be understandable, but the truth is that education is power. Dear African fathers and tradition, when you educate your girl child, she will be able to distinguish between wrong and right and then be able to say NO to whatever that can destroy her future. By giving your girl child education, you are protecting her future!!!
