''High Institutions are not under compulsion to accept our cut-off marks'' JAMB

''The worse admitted cut off mark in Nigeria is better
than any foreign university'' : JAMB.

So,what is this controversy over Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board cut off mark for Universities and Polytechnics? "All Heads of tertiary institutions were requested to submit their cut off mark to the Board which will then be used for the admission'' says the spokesperson of JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin. Yes he affirms: ''And these benchmarks once determined cannot be changed in the middle of admission exercise.''

Yes it is true that Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board- JAMB has cut 120 for Universities in Nigeria, and 100 for Polytechnics.  From the same academic organization JAMB,it states with confidence ''High Institutions are not under compulsion to accept our cut off-marks'' So what is the trouble with JAMB policies?

Aren't jamb candidates supposed to be happy for this cut off marks? Has it not opened opportunity for all and sundry to feel qualified and get admissions? What bad has the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board JAMB done to deserve any criticism on this policy? Shouldn't you Jamb candidates be happy for this cut off marks which will benefit almost everyone who have score 100 and above? Yes,high institutions are not under compulsion to accept our cut off marks says JAMB.

Some people claim that the low benchmark by JAMB will reduce educational standard in Nigerian educational system. Then we ask: How? Were you not the same person that says : ''Exam is not the true test of ones knowledge.'' This means that it doesn't even matter whatever mark one scores in  exam. That scores does not always determine ones state of intelligence. right?

The only time there will be problems with the benchmark is if there is any marginalization or when some ethnic groups are considered better than others. Likely, the statement ''high institutions are not under compulsion to accept our cut off marks'' will make some breaches!

There are many things that should be questioned in admission system. For example, why would a candidate who wants to study arts in university be denied admission if he does not have mathematics in his WAEC?  But in western countries, the same policy does not apply. Will you not also query JAMB for this policy???
