Lagos state commissioner feeling sorry over her statements that ''women are the major cause of domestic violence''

Honorable Akande distances herself from any person or
organization that violates women's right

Did you remember our article on ''domestic violence''? It was deduced from the statement made by the Lagos state commissioner for women affairs,Honorable Lola Akande. On a conference in Lagos state where she spoke about domestic violence, the Honorable commissioner stated therein that women are the major cause of domestic violence through negligence, infidelity and the rest saying: ''Women cause domestic violence by themselves''. Read it here: '' Most women are the cause of domestic abuses, not their husbands''-Commissioner for women affairs,Lagos.

Within 24 hours of passing this malicious message to the whole wide world through social media,a lot of people have queried it,putting many questions to the Honorable commissioner of women affairs Lagos. Yes,over 80% of hearers argued on social media, that the Honorable commissioner is only putting some fuel on  a spark of fire! However, here are the immediate responses of the Honorable commissioner for women affairs over her statement on domestic abuse:

''Honourable Akande is reputed as a staunch advocate for women's rights and unreservedly condemns and distances herself from any person or organisation that would hold an opposing viewpoint. (Then why did you say that women cause their domestic violence by themselves honorable Akande?)

It is however germane to share some information that gives insight to the alleged statement.

First, the statement was an unauthorised statement issued  by a staff of the Ministry without any foreknowledge of the Commissioner. (A staff could say that in your presence and you didn't stop it?)

Secondly, the theme of the conference where the alleged inciting statement was made was 'Effective Communication in Marriage'.  A call to both spouses to communicate with more civility and mutual respect, apt at such a conference, should not be distorted to appear as the endorsement of domestic violence. Such actions are simultaneously egregious and mischievous. ( We're just hearing that for the first time madam,Are you mixing up things?)

The Ministry uses this opportunity to restate its unflinching commitment to the quest for women's rights. We also reaffirm our position on Violence Against Women. We condemn it unreservedly and will continue to bring the full weight of the law to bear upon those who are found guilty of perpetrating Domestic Violence.''

At least the Honorable commissioner acknowledges that that statement was not just unfair on women,a fuel in a spark of fire, but also a slander on womanhood!  Lagos state commissioner feeling sorry over her statement that women are the major cause of domestic violence!Apology accepted?
